It might seem crazy, but yes Ben Davies is still at Liverpool.
Not that he’s been there for long, because he only joined Jurgen Klopp’s side in January of 2021, but it seems like much longer ago.
In fact, there’s a high chance that many Liverpool supporters have forgotten all about the 26-year-old defender.
Davies joined a depleted Reds squad 18 months ago following long-term injuries for Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
He was a Championship player at the time, having been at Preston North End, and he returned to the second tier with a Sheffield United loan last summer.
But unpredictably, Liverpool have decided to sell him.
That’s according to The Echo, who write that the Anfield outfit have made him available for transfer, but that a return to the Blades is unlikely due to their finances.
Disappointingly for the player, he hasn’t played a single minute of competitive football under Klopp, who relied on centre-backs Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams and Ozan Kabak for the second half of last season.
It will forever go down as a bizarre transfer and one that probably shouldn’t have happened, even though The Athletic reported 12 months ago that Klopp saw comparisons with Andy Robertson.
It remains to be seen who will sign the player, but a Premier League club is out of the question when you consider that he’s completely untested in the top flight.
A return to the Championship is a certainty if he does indeed leave Liverpool.
