Liverpool are said to be interested in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White, although they will have to pay up to sign him.
The Daily Mail say that Liverpool are among a clutch of Premier League sides chasing the 23-year-old centre back, as the summer transfer window edges closer to opening.
However, Brighton know the value of their player – and will only listen to offers north of £50 million.
Deal still unlikely?
That could make him an expensive purchase in a month where Liverpool have already gone out and bought Ibrahima Konate.
There is no doubting that White would make an exciting addition to Liverpool’s team, and would really help add depth to Jurgen Klopp’s central defensive options.
However, it would be a surprise if Liverpool spent close to £90 million on new centre-backs in one window, especially as they are also looking for additions in other areas of the pitch.
White’s value could actually rise this summer, as he has just been named in England’s squad for Euro 2020 – in what is unquestionably the most momentous week of his career so far.
The Brighton man took the place of Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. who picked up an injury in the build-up to the international tournament.
White has already been described as ‘fantastic’ by former Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana (TalkSPORT), and if his reputation does increase in the coming weeks through his performances for England, then the links with Klopp’s side are only likely to cause more excitement around Anfield.
