Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are competing with Barcelona for Benfica forward Henrique Araujo, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The report in the Spanish news outlet has claimed that Liverpool have been tracking the Benfica forward for a while, and that the Reds are now joined in the race for the 20-year-old by Manchester City and Barcelona.

Portuguese giants Benfica do not want to sell one of the best young players in the summer transfer window, according to the report.

Henrique Araujo a long-term prospect for Liverpool

In our opinion, Liverpool do not need to sign Araujo now, as he is very young and is just starting his career.

The 20-year-old has made a handful of appearances for the Benfica first team this season, although he does have an excellent record for the youth team.

As noted on Transfermarkt, Araujo has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in total across all competitions this season.

That includes a hat-trick in the UEFA Youth League and one goal in the Portuguese league for Benfica.

Araujo has scored 13 goals and given six assists in Liga Sabseg (Liga Portugal 2) as well.

If Liverpool sign Araujo this summer, then it is very likely that the youngster will initially be part of the Reds’ Under-23 side.
