Liverpool will reportedly reignite their interest in Matheus Nunes in the January transfer window despite the midfielder only just signing for Wolves from Sporting Lisbon.
According to the Sunday Mirror (2/10: pg 78), Jurgen Klopp’s side have been left impressed with the Portuguese international’s performances since moving to the Premier League this summer, with Wolves signing Nunes for a reported £42m from Sporting in one of the most surprising deals of the transfer window.
Nunes was linked with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham this summer. However, it was Wolves who won the race to sign the midfielder, and whilst results have been poor from the Molineux side, the 24-year-old has been a noticeable positive for the West Midlands club.
And now, Liverpool could move for the maestro in January despite only just joining Wolves, with the Reds desperate for midfield reinforcements with injury problems plaguing Klopp’s season. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones are all currently out on the treatment table.

Indeed, signing Nunes will be quite the economical challenge for Liverpool given how recent the midfielder has joined Wolves. But, given that UEFA Champions League football will be on the cards for the 24-year-old as well as a shot at regular silverware, the player himself could push for a move.
It might be an unlikely move in January, for sure. However, there’s no move that is too impossible for a club as big as Liverpool, and if Wolves’ fortunes continue to slump, Nunes might be willing to leave the Molineux side for Anfield in the winter transfer window.
Liverpool should attempt to sign Matheus Nunes in January

Nunes has been one of the few bright spots for Wolves this season, yet despite how recent his arrival to England has been, Liverpool should make an honest attempt to sign the midfielder in January given how deep their problems in the position run.
With Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave next summer, finding a quality replacement in January might save Klopp a lot of hassle come next summer, and Nunes fits the bill for what Liverpool need in the position to a tee, despite the financial obstacles.
