Goal claim that Liverpool are confident Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma is good enough to replace Sadio Mane at Anfield. The latter turns 30 on Sunday, and is out of contract in 2023 – he could be allowed to leave Anfield.
Mane has been incredible ever since swapping Southampton for Liverpool. In just six seasons, he has clocked up a huge 256 outings, scoring 112 goals. Martin O’Neill recently praised his consistency, able to play every week.
But with Mane due to enter his thirties and his contract ending in 2023, his future is in doubt. Talks are understood to be underway, but the Reds may look to bring in a replacement and Mane drops down the pecking order.
Netherlands international Danjuma has been strongly linked with the Reds, as he continues to shine in his first season at Villarreal. The 25-year-old has scored 14 in 29, six of which have come in nine Champions League games.
The Athletic recently reported that Danjuma, who struggled in the Premier League in his first stint under Eddie Howe with Bournemouth, has a release clause at Villarreal worth £63million. He has a contract until 2026.
Danjuma to Liverpool: Is he really good enough to replace Mane?
Mane is direct. He is incredibly quick, skillful and can score any kind of goal with both feet or his head. His work rate is unrivalled. Can Danjuma match that? Well, he can certainly score goals from out wide.
He has the pace, the skills, the aerial ability and is five years younger than Mane. What Danjuma might lack slightly is the work rate, but Unai Emery has improved that in his Villarreal side. £63million is a bargain.
