Martin O’Neill told Premier League’s Matchday Extra on Saturday evening that Liverpool star Sadio Mane is one of his favourite players. The ex-Premier League boss raved about the Senegal star’s consistency.

Mane, 29, has enjoyed another brilliant season – scoring 14 goals, 12 of which have come in his 27 Premier League appearances. He has four goals in his last five league starts, coming on as a sub against Watford.

The ex-Southampton star has only missed matches this season, due to either the African Cup of Nations – which he won – or being rested. His future remains up in the air but on the pitch, Mane has been superb for Liverpool.

Speaking about Mane on Saturday evening in the Premier League’s highlights show, ex-Villa, Leicester and Celtic manager O’Neill said Mane is one of his favourites. He was full of praise for his unwavering fitness.

“Liverpool overpower you, they have unbelievable players. Mane, I love him, he’s one of my favourite players. He’s fantastic and he plays every single week, every week. It’s great for the Premier League,” O’Neill said.

O’Neill on Mane: Liverpool really need to sort out his Anfield future

While all the talk remains to be on Mo Salah’s future, Mane is also out of contract in the summer of 2023. He has been linked with Spain’s two biggest clubs but it remains to be seen where Mane sees his future.

O’Neill’s point regarding his fitness and his constant availability is a point that Liverpool really need to consider. Yes, he turns 30 on Sunday, but he is showing no signs of slowing down. They really need to sort his future out.
