Goal claim James Milner chose to turn down offers from Aston Villa and Newcastle to sign a new one-year Liverpool deal. The veteran midfielder has agreed a lower wage to stay at Anfield for another season.
Milner, 36, was out of contract at Liverpool before the Reds announced a new deal for Milner on Monday. The 61-time England star now has the chance to catch Frank Lampard in the list of Premier League record appearances.

Sitting on 588, Milner is 21 behind Lampard – and fourth in the all-time record holders. Gareth Barry sits above Ryan Giggs in first. Despite his age, there was plenty of interest in the 61-time England international.
Indeed, Goal claim Milner has rejected offers from Villa and Newcastle – two of his former clubs – as well as a handful of MLS sides. Instead, he has signed a new Liverpool deal, prompting praise from Ryan Babel.
Milner turns down Villa and Newcastle offers to sign new Liverpool deal
Milner played 39 times for Liverpool last season. Not only would he have been hard to replace on the pitch, but his influence and attitude is an example to the younger players off of it.
Keeping him around for another season at Liverpool gives those youngsters coming through the ranks at Liverpool an example to follow. If they want game time, to make it at senior level, just look at Milner.
Still regarded as one of Liverpool’s fittest players, and his willingness to adapt to new positions, makes him a crucial part of the Reds side. Little surprise, that he had interest from Villa and Newcastle.
