According to O Jogo, Liverpool offered midfielder Marko Grujic to PSV Eindhoven in a potential deal for striker Donyell Malen.
The Reds have brought in RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate this summer, but have been quiet outside of that move for the Frenchman.
Jurgen Klopp needs further attacking firepower, and Malen appears to be a target.
Marco Timmer of Voetbal International in the Netherlands claimed earlier this month that Liverpool were in negotiations with agent Mino Raiola to thrash out a deal for Malen.
That won’t be easy with Borussia Dortmund also interested, so Liverpool decided to dangle a player in PSV’s direction to try and tempt them into a deal.
Grujic was allegedly offered up to PSV, though it’s unclear whether the Dutch side are at all interested in signing him.
The Serbian midfielder was Klopp’s first signing way back in January 2016, but has struggled for first-team action at Anfield and now needs to leave.
The Portuguese press have been covering Grujic’s future as Porto – where he spent last season on loan – have been keen to re-sign him, and the alleged swap offer left them in danger of missing out.
If Liverpool receive encouragement that they can pull this deal off, they should absolutely go for it.
The Dutch forward has been branded ‘very fast’ by ex-Reds defender Jose Enrique and smashed 27 goals as well as 10 assists in 45 games for PSV last season.
Formerly of Arsenal, Malen still has huge potential at 22 and showed his quality with the Netherlands at Euro 2020, sparking a real race for his signature.
Let’s see if Liverpool’s offer to send Grujic to the Netherlands helps them secure Malen’s signature.
