Liverpool want to to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, according to Calcio Mercato.

Martinez to Liverpool?

Jurgen Klopp labelled the striker ‘one of the best in the world’ yesterday, after Liverpool drew Inter Milan in the Champions League knockout stages, and there are now claims that he is a player who has been on the Anfield side’s radar for 18 months.

The problem for Liverpool seems to be that Inter are simply not interested in offers for their star man.

Indeed, the latest update suggests that Inter have put a ‘not for sale’ sign over Martinez’s head.

Liverpool, though, believe he is the perfect man for their side ‘post-Firmino’.

Perfect fit?

It is easy to see why Liverpool would be keen to snap up Martinez too.

He has the work-rate to fit in with their high pressing system and has also scored prolifically in recent seasons in Inter.

His form has led to him being labelled ‘very talented’ by former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and he was also named the 21st best player in the world at the Ballon D’Or ceremony last month.

If he was to arrive at Liverpool he would add another truly elite player to Klopp’s attack.

But it may require a huge fee to prise him away from Inter right now, and Liverpool haven’t typically been the sort of side to go out and spend massive amounts of money in recent seasons.
