Liverpool signing Jude Bellingham just might have legs.
According to The Mirror, Jurgen Klopp has entrusted Julian Ward with a task of identifying a world-class midfielder to sign during the summer of 2023.
The report has added that the Borussia Dortmund sensation Bellingham ‘ticks every box’ and that the 18-year-old – who turns 19 this month – might be willing to join Liverpool after Klopp committed his future to the Merseyside outfit last month,.
Earlier this week, it was reported in Spain by Cadena Ser that the Reds have offered the Bundesliga club £87 million, even though any transfer wouldn’t be happening for another 12 months.
The Mirror also added that Bellingham grew up as a Liverpool supporter in another plus point with regards to Klopp’s chances of luring him back to England, having began his burgeoning career at Birmingham City.
Liverpool signing Jude Bellingham?
This is a signing that would not only delight the fanbase but, really, Klopp needs him too.
Jordan Henderson has just turned 32 and with Thiago also on the wrong side of 30, it’s time for Liverpool to look to the future.
And given Klopp’s capacity for improving young players, it’s easy to see why a transfer to Anfield ‘may appeal’ to the reported boyhood Reds supporter.
Curtis Jones has arguably stagnated a little, having burst on to the scene a couple of seasons ago, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is coming into the prime of his career but he was omitted from Liverpool’s last seven squads during the 2021-22 campaign, highlighting his decline.
Beyond Henderson and Thiago, the former Dortmund manager hasn’t got a reliable figure who can be their midfield star for years to come.
That’s why Ward and Klopp are right in thinking Bellingham ‘ticks every box’.
