According to Cadena SER, Liverpool have bid €100m (£87m) for Jude Bellingham, although the Premier League side face competition from Real Madrid.

What’s the story?

Well, following the £85m signing of Darwin Nunez, Jürgen Klopp has seemingly turned his attention to the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid.

Cadena SER believe Real Madrid are targeting a move for Bellingham in 2023, as they currently have no space for him in their squad – Carlo Ancelotti has exceeded his non-EU player quota.

However, with Vinicius Junior set to receive Spanish citizenship next year, a move for the England international is on.

Interestingly, the Spanish news outlet describe Liverpool as a big problem for Real Madrid in their pursuit of the 18-year-old, so by the sounds of it, the Reds are going to put up a real fight for Bellingham’s signature.

By the sounds of it, the pair will have to wait until 2023 to enjoy the teenager’s talents, even if a deal is agreed this summer.

After Erling Haaland joined Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund have no interest in losing Bellingham in the same window.

If any deal is agreed, it would presumably be similar to the signing of Naby Keita, who spent one more season with RB Leipzig before joining Liverpool in 2019, following an agreement made in 2018.

In 44 appearances last season, Bellingham scored six goals, while also providing 14 assists.

Liverpool must beat Real Madrid now

In our view, Liverpool must get this deal wrapped up now.

If Klopp waits until 2023, the queue for Bellingham’s signature will potentially be a very long one.

Erik ten Hag already wants to bring the Borussia Dortmund No.22 to Manchester United, who offered the teenager a tour of Carrington before he left Birmingham for Germany, and we presume more competition will arrive.

By striking a deal now, Liverpool would be able to rest easy next summer, knowing they already have Europe’s best midfield prospect on his way to Anfield.

Of course, that is easier said than done, but the Reds are very attractive at the moment following their quadruple push, so Klopp must strike while the iron is hot.

For example, if Liverpool go on to finish third or fourth next season when Bellingham is available, he may decide against being a part of Klopp’s project – only time will tell what happens.
