Liverpool and Manchester City are among the clubs interested in signing Diego Carlos from Sevilla in the summer of 2021, according to El Gol Digital.

It has been reported by the Spanish news outlet that Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Brazilian central defender, described as “very fast” by his former Estoril coach Fabiano Soares in ESPN in February 2020.

The report has claimed that Carlos is in talks with several interested parties, and that Sevilla have identified Tottenham Hotspur central defender Davinson Sanchez as a potential replacement.

Do Liverpool or Manchester City need a new centre-back?

Carlos is a very good central defender who has done well at Sevilla and is at the peak of his career.

One can understand why the Brazilian reportedly has so many clubs on his trail, but one has to ask whether Liverpool or City need another central defender.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joep Matip will be back for next season, and the Reds also signed Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke and Ben Davies from Preston North End in the January transfer window. Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips are also there.

As for City, manager Pep Guardiola has Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporta and Nathan Ake as his options at the back.
