Seldom-seen goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic is set to be handed a new contract and a pay rise at FA Cup finalists Leicester City, as reported by the Sun (18 April, page 67).

Foxes fans would be forgiven for forgetting all about this 36-year-old shot-stopper.

After all, Jakupovic has not made a single appearance for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.

In fact, his most recent appearance in Leicester colours came all the way back in May 2018, during that 5-4 final day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Danny Simpson, Andre Silva, Vicente Iborra and Fousseni Diabate also featured for the Midland side that day. A lot has changed at the King Power since then.

Jakupovic’s contract was due to expire in July.

But, according to the Sun, the one-time Hull City and Leyton Orient ‘keeper will be offered a new deal – complete with a pay rise – as Leicester look to retain his services.

Jakupovic has plenty of admirers behind the scenes at the King Power, providing experience, competition and an affable presence in the dressing room.

The Sun reports that Danny Ward and Kasper Schmeichel are likely to remain as Leicester’s second and first choice, with the promising Daniel Iversen set for another loan spell away from the club.

Iversen has impressed during the last few months at Preston North End, making one of the saves of the Championship season against Blackburn Rovers in February.
