It was a save Schmeichel would have been proud of – Kasper or Peter for that matter.

Adam Armstrong looked destined to score when he connected smartly with a whipped, near-post cross during the Championship clash between Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End this weekend.

But the Rovers talisman hadn’t reckoned for the cat-like reflexes of Alex Neil’s on-loan shot-stopper.

Has there been a better save in the Football League this season? If so, we’d pay good money to see it.

Iversen reacted at the speed of light, throwing out an arm to deflect the ball wide of the post almost from point-blank range.

For some, it was reminiscent of a young Jordan Pickford during his spell at Deepdale in 2015/16.

Neil may have caused an eyebrow or two to raise on the banks of the Ribble when he decided to drop the reliable Declan Rudd for a 23-year-old signed on a short-term deal from Leicester City in January.

But to say Iversen repaid Neil’s faith with interest would be an understatement.

His stunning save, Greg Cunningham’s volley and Liam Lindsay’s winner means Preston, after securing a 2-1 win away at their arch rivals, have reclaimed their usual role as play-off dark horses.

And with Kasper Schmeichel not getting any younger at 34, perhaps Leicester won’t have to look too far to find the Great Dane’s long-term replacement.
