According to The Athletic, Leeds United are interested in a move for Manchester City youngster Romeo Lavia.
Leeds are seriously trying to bolster their midfield this summer. Brenden Aaronson has already arrived, Marc Roca is seemingly on his way, Tyler Adams has been linked and now Leeds want Lavia.
The 18-year-old is very highly rated, and he could be a great replacement for the seemingly departing Kalvin Phillips.
Somewhat ironically, Phillips looks to be on his way to City, so perhaps there may be a way for Lavia to be used as something of a makeweight for this transfer.
So, what type of player would Leeds be getting if they signed Lavia?
Well, the defensive midfielder is your classic number six, and he’s even named the likes of Fernandinho and Sergio Busquets as his biggest inspirations.
“I’ve watched a lot of Fernandinho and [Sergio] Busquets,” Lavia told Goal. “Those two have dominated the game as defensive midfielders. I’ve looked at them a lot.”
“Fernandinho knows what he’s doing – he doesn’t run just to run. He’s like the brain of the team.
“When you’re young you want to run – left, right – but he knows what he’s doing so he won’t run as much, but will still be effective. That’s something I keep learning from him.
Ironically, Lavia seems like a prototype Marcelo Bielsa player. He would have been an absolute diamond at the base of the Argentine’s patented 4-1-4-1 system, but sadly, he may have to settle as a part of a double pivot in Jesse Marsch’s 4-2-2-2.
This is a very talented young player, and Leeds fans should be excited at the prospect of Lavia heading to Elland Road.
