Leeds United are now looking to raid Premier League champions Manchester City again with a move for midfielder Yangel Herrera.
That’s according to The Sun, who report that Leeds have shown an interest in signing Herrera from City after already landing Jack Harrison from them.
City are allegedly willing to let Herrera go this summer, but Leeds face competition from West Ham United, who have also shown an interest.
Herrera, 23, joined City from Atletico Venezuela in 2017, but has yet to make a single appearance for Pep Guardiola’s men.
The holding midfielder went on loan to New York City and Huesca, but really excelled in a two-year loan spell at Granada, helping them reach the Europa League quarter-finals.
Leeds are seeking additional midfield options this summer, and Herrera’s ability to play as a holding or box-to-box midfielder makes him ideal for what Marcelo Bielsa is seeking.
Branded ‘outstanding’, ‘really athletic’ and ‘dynamic’ by La Liga expert Terry Gibson, Herrera finds himself in limbo; he was superb last season but seems some way off City’s plans.
A move to Leeds could help Herrera settle down and play regular first-team football, but West Ham can offer European action to the £20million-rated midfielder.
This could now become a real battle for Herrera, and Leeds may hope their relationship with City will help them add Herrera to Harrison at Elland Road.
