La Liga expert Terry Gibson believes reported Southampton and West Ham United target Yangel Herrera may have a future at Manchester City after an ‘outstanding’ spell at Granada, speaking to talkSPORT (8 April, 2.30pm).
Despite what some may have you believe, Man United’s Europa League opponents are not a team of cloggers and journeyman, postmen and schoolteachers.
Far from it.
In Rui Silva, one of the most underrated goalkeepers on the continent is plying his trade at the Nuevo los Carmenes. Granada can also call upon former France international Maxime Gonalons, Real Madrid loanee Jesus Vallejo and the twice-capped Portuguese Domingos Duarte.
23-year-old Herrera, however, may be the most exciting of the lot.
A 6ft Venezuelan with the leap of a salmon, the all-action midfielder has enjoyed two superb seasons on loan in Spain.
And if Man City cannot find a place at the Etihad for a man yet to make a single appearance under Pep Guardiola, two of their Premier League rivals may be willing to hand Herrera a chance in England.
The Sun (8 April, page 50) reports that West Ham and Southampton are interested.
“He’s been outstanding it was a real coup to get him to stay (at Granada),” says Gibson, a former Man United forward.
“He’s a really athletic, dynamic player who has a habit of getting into the box at the right times. He’s a threat in the air too. He’s a fantastic acquisition (for Granada).
“Is he ever going to play for Manchester City? I wouldn’t say its impossible. Hes shown his talent, he’s really good.”
The box-to-box enforcer, who is at his best when bursting into the penalty area before powering bullet headers into the back of the net, has scored an impressive eight goals in 2020/21.
