According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have submitted a bid for Celtic prospect Matthew Anderson.
What’s the story?
Well, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have made their move for the 17-year-old, who is a very highly-rated young left-back.
The teenager signed a professional contract at Celtic Park after arriving from Blantyre Soccer Academy in Glasgow.
Anderson has represented Scotland at Under-16 level, winning three caps at that level.
The YEP adds that Leeds are interested in signing another Celtic prodigy as well as Anderson in Leo Hjelde.
Who does Matthew Anderson play like?
Interestingly, Anderson has been compared to someone who is arguably one of the best left-backs in Europe – Kieran Tierney.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Blantyre Soccer Academy Chief Jimmy Whelan hailed the defender for his progress.
Whelan said: “He is dedicated, he has his head screwed on and is very academic. Celtic are letting him finish his education, and then bringing him back in. His parents dithered a bit, but when they saw what Celtic had to offer, they felt it was the right club for him.
“He really is one to watch, he is the real deal, and could be like Kieran Tierney.”
In our view, it’s great to see Leeds commit to strengthening the academy.
It’s tempting to focus solely on the first-team, and enjoy immediate success.
However, footballers don’t play forever, and it’s important to have the next generation lined up when those first-team stars begin to wither.
In Anderson, it sounds like Leeds are bidding for a real gem of a player.
