The Yorkshire Evening Post claim Joe Gelhardt is in ‘advanced talks’ over signing a new contract at Leeds United – with an announcement expected for the striker next week, after a whirlwind first season at senior level.
Gelhardt, 20, scored 18 goals in 28 games for the club’s Premier League 2 side and it saw Marcelo Bielsa hand the ex-Wigan man a debut in the first half of the season. He went on to play 22 times in all competitions.

Of those 22, 20 came in the Premier League – having a hand in six goals; scoring a crucial injury-time winner against Norwich City. He also laid on a stunning assist against Brighton, saving a point and draw 1-1 at Elland Road.
Now, Gelhardt is due to be rewarded. His current deal ends in 2024 but that has not stopped the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha departing. A player, that Brenden Aaronson branded both “amazing” and “exciting”.
Gelhardt in advanced talks over signing new Leeds contract
The YEP state that a deal could be announced as early as next week. He is expected to be the first of a string of new deals at Elland Road. The report also states that Cryenscio Summerville will come next, with Forest interested.
It is an intriguing summer for Gelhardt. Patrick Bamford is due to return from injury. Plagued by injury last season, the England international is likely to remain first choice. Rodrigo has also been playing up top.
Meanwhile, Leeds are likely to be looking at a new signing in terms of bringing in a striker. There was interest in Eddie Nketiah before he signed a new deal at Arsenal. But Gelhardt is set to sign a new deal.
