Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich could still leave Elland Road this summer despite impressing this weekend in the Whites’ 2-1 Premier League win against Wolves in the opening weekend of the season.
According to the Athletic, some figures around the club believe the Polish international could still leave Leeds with reports emerging this month that Klich could call time on his five-year in Yorkshire, with former club FC Utrecht reportedly interested in signing the 32-year-old midfielder.
Despite featuring in Leeds’ win against Wolves this weekend off the bench, Klich could depart the Premier League side, with Jesse Marsch this summer shoring up the midfield with the signings of Marc Roca and Tyler Adams, both of whom who started ahead of the Pole on Saturday.
With Leeds reportedly still in the market for new signings, Klich could leave to free up space in the squad as well as wages on the payroll, yet the departure of an Elland Road icon in the same summer Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips also left could be a bitter blow for supporters.
This summer has seen wholesale changes in Yorkshire, with Marsch making six signings as Leeds looked like a totally different team to the one that started for Marcelo Bielsa this time last year, and the departure of Klich will be another sign of the changing times at the club.
Indeed, Klich has been an incredible servant for Leeds and an instrumental part of their modern history that saw the Whites return to the Premier League after well over a decade in the Championship, yet the departure of the midfielder could be a needed one if Marsch is to make a clear break from the Bielsa era.
Leeds should be pushing Klich to leave this summer

As mentioned, this summer has been one of the biggest Leeds have experienced in quite some time, and Klich leaving for a potential return to the Netherlands could be an encouraging sign that Marsch is looking to forge his own identity with his own squad at Elland Road.
Of course, the exit of a club hero in Klich will be a bitter pill to swallow for many fans, but for some, the Pole leaving Yorkshire will signal a true change in what direction the club are going in under Marsch, and this could be an exciting prospect for the Premier League side looking to make a name for themselves in the division.
