According to The Sun on Sunday (04/07, p60), Leeds United are now making a move to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.
The Whites comfortably survived in their first season back in the Premier League and are now looking for additions to bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
Leeds’ interest in O’Brien
It’s stated that Leeds are now making their first bid for O’Brien in the hope of prising him away from West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.
Bielsa allegedly wants fresh legs in midfield and O’Brien has been picked out as a target to fill that role, though Huddersfield will allegedly demand £10million for him.
Corberan’s view on O’Brien
Bielsa’s former Leeds assistant Carlos Corberan is currently in charge of Huddersfield, and gave O’Brien 39 starts in the Championship last season.
In April, Corberan called O’Brien ‘fantastic’ and ‘important’, highlighting that his intensity creates an ‘unbelievable feeling’ in the rest of the team; easy to see why Bielsa and Leeds fancy signing him, isn’t it?

What about Newcastle United?
The Sun reported in May that O’Brien had emerged as Newcastle’s top alternative to Joe Willock if they can’t bring the Arsenal midfielder back to Tyneside.
O’Brien was only valued at £4million then, but with these new £10million claims, his price tag is rising – and that’s not what Newcastle wanted to happen.
