A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post claims Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch sees Jamie Shackleton as ‘out of favour’ at Elland Road. Shackleton started just seven Premier League matches during the 2021-22 campaign.

Shackleton, 22, made his debut under Marcelo Bielsa in 2018 and has gone on to play 79 times. He was considered a key part of the squad in the Championship – but promotion has pushed him down the pecking order.

Despite his versatility, Shackleton has played 27 times in the Premier League over the last two seasons. He last started a Premier League game in December, but was hooked before half-time against Manchester City.

Now, the report from the Yorkshire Evening Post claims Shackleton is seen as ‘out of favour’ at Leeds under Marsch. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Leeds academy product, ahead of the summer.

Shackleton ‘out of favour’ at Leeds: He needs to leave, at least on loan

Shackleton has shown incredible attitude and just an underlying delight to play for his boyhood club whenever given the chance. But this summer is a pivotal stage in his career and ultimately, he needs to consider his future.

He will not get the game time under Marsch with Cody Drameh returning from his loan at Cardiff after talks with the Leeds boss. Shackleton has a contract until 2024, but he needs to at least consider a loan move.

Where could he go? The Championship is the most-likely landing spot for the versatile ace. He needs a team where he will play. There is potential in Shackleton, a player Jermaine Beckford once branded “phenomenal”.
