CalcioMercato report that Juventus are closing in on the signing of PSG midfielder and Tottenham target Leandro Paredes – amid reports that Spurs are attempting a swap deal involving Japhet Tanganga.

Paredes, 28, could leave PSG this summer. He has fallen down the pecking order and the new claim is that Christopher Galter wants rid of the 44-time Argentina international. CM say PSG want £21million for his services.

The ex-Zenit midfielder is in the final two years of his contract – which is worth £148,000 a week. Reports earlier this week said that Tottenham were considering a move to sign Paredes in a straight swap for defender Tanganga.

However, a move to Juventus looks much more likely. Talks are advanced and CM say “the last contacts were very positive”. The sticking point is the transfer fee, despite Juve wanting Paredes – and Paredes wanting Juve.

Indeed, CM say PSG want £21million for his services, while Juventus are only willing to offer £12.5million. It could be that striking a loan deal for Arthur to Valencia could give Juventus the room to strike a deal for Paredes.

Do Tottenham really need Paredes? They have brought in Yves Bissouma. But Oliver Skipp is starting to become somewhat injury prone – after his groin issue last season, and now a hairline fracture in his foot.

Harry Winks remains at the club but is likely to be sold. Pape Matar Sarr has returned from a loan at Metz, but he could leave on loan again – AC Milan are pushing. So, perhaps, there is an argument for a fifth central midfielder.

Paredes is a quality player. But he is not a cheap one, given his wages. If Spurs are to bring in another midfielder, you would argue that Paredes wages are too high for him to be a rotational option.
