According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona defender Junior Firpo is set to land a pay rise when he completes his move to Leeds United.

Leeds went into this summer needing to sign a left back. Ezgjan Alioski’s contract has expired, and it was a position Leeds could have upgraded anyway.

A number of exciting options have been touted, but it looks like Barcelona’s Firpo is on the verge of making a move to Elland Road.

Firpo to secure Leeds pay rise

It’s stated that Leeds intend to present Firpo as their new signing today, having him a four-year contract and a pay rise.

It has been estimated in Spain that Firpo earns around €28,000-a-week at Barcelona – around £24,000-a-week.

A Barcelona first-team squad member earning a pay rise at Leeds is something you couldn’t have imagined a few years ago.

Here we are though; Firpo will join Leeds in a €15million deal, paid in two instalments. That’s around £13million, representing a pretty decent deal for the Whites.

Firpo needs to get back on track

Barcelona splashed €18million (£15.5million) to sign Firpo in 2019, and Quique Setien branded him as ‘excellent’ with ‘enormous potential’.

With only 24 La Liga appearances to his name at Barca, Firpo needs to get back on track with Leeds. He’s 24 and in danger of letting so much talent slip away having lost his confidence at Barcelona.

Marcelo Bielsa may be able to get that out of him again, with Leeds investing in Firpo getting back to his best with the benefit of regular playing time.
