According to Deporte Valenciano, Jorge Mendes is desperately trying to move Gonçalo Guedes from Valencia to Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spanish news outlet explain how Valencia find themselves in serious financial difficulty.
It is said that Valencia need to make major sales, and so far, have been unable to offload any of their most valuable assets.
That is why Mendes is ‘going with everything’ to get Guedes – who Valencia paid £36 million for – to Spurs.
Jasper Cillessen, Maxi Gómez, Carlos Soler and José Gayà are also up for sale, as the Spanish side attempt to have a clear-out.
In our view, their desperation is good news for Tottenham.
If Nuno Espírito Santo is interested in having Guedes at Hotspur Way, Spurs find themselves in a great position to haggle Valencia’s asking price down.
Who is Gonçalo Guedes?
For those of you worried that Mendes might be trying to senselessly shove a client into Nuno’s squad, there’s plenty to reassure you.
Firstly, Guedes was once called the new Cristiano Ronaldo after bursting onto the scene with Benfica in Portugal.
He then earned a big move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he spent just one season before Valencia splashed £36 million on him.
Things haven’t gone too well for Guedes in Spain – he’s scored just 23 goals in 136 games for Valencia.
However, at 24, he still has plenty of time on his side to fulfil his vast potential.
Under a Portuguese coach, with players like Heung-min Son and Harry Kane around him, Guedes could thrive in north London.
If Mendes successfully pulls this off, Spurs fans have plenty to be excited about.
