The Aston Villa midfielder had looked set for a return to France.
Aston Villa’s Jordan Veretout
Jordan Veretout’s move from Aston Villa to Marseille is looking increasingly unlikely, L’Equipe reports (via Get French Football News).
The report claims L’OM are ready to give up on Veretout after his agents sought alternative options – despite the former Nantes midfielder’s desire to join the French side.
Veretout’s first season at Villa did not go to plan
Last month, Veretout was linked with moves to Celta Vigo and Real Betis by the Spanish media and according to Get French Football News, the latter have ‘joined the party’.
The 23-year-old was highly rated at the time of his 2015 switch to Villa Park, with eventual Premier League champions Leicester City also keen, the player later admitted to the Birmingham Mail.
What the midfielder could have won
However, he was one of a number of Villans to struggle in last season’s Premier League campaign, which culminated in the club’s first relegation in 29 years.
Veretout’s teammate Idrissa Gueye, who impressed despite the above, was also linked with a move to Marseille this summer (Le 10 Sport) but now looks to be Everton-bound, with the Daily Mail reporting the Toffees have triggered his £7.2 million release clause.
However, a third Villans midfielder Carlos Sanchez could still switch to the Stade Velodrome, as reported by the Birmingham Mail last week.
