The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth reports that Leeds manager Jesse Marsch is willing to take a look at Helder Costa, Ian Poveda and Leif Davis a chance in pre-season. Marsch is preparing for his first full season.

Costa, 28, is set to return to the club from Valencia after a disappointing loan spell in La Liga. He failed to score in 27 appearances – but has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.

Meanwhile, Poveda and Davis have spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan in Blackburn and Bournemouth. Poveda, though, broke his ankle in November and did not play again. Davis only managed 15 outings.

All three remain under contract – though Davis is set to enter the last 12 months of his contract. However, Marsch is now said to be willing to give all three a chance to shine over the next couple of months in pre-season.

Marsch to give Leeds trio a pre-season chance: Davis, Poveda or Costa?

Which ones will stay, and which ones will go? Ultimately, Raphinha could still stay with Barcelona reportedly struggling to afford the Brazilian. That might see Costa and Poveda struggle.

Costa’s unadvantages are that he is now 28, and his wages are likely to be sizeable. The Angola man needs to go, while Poveda might be given a chance to return from his injury.

At left-back, there is a chance for Davis to come in and show what he has got. Stuart Dallas is injured and Junior Firpo has been inconsistent throughout. Davis has the chance to stake his claim.
