Inter Milan could reportedly wrap up the signing for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah by as early as Monday, with Leeds United and Tottenham both chasing the 23-year-old.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are stepping up negotiations to sign the Cobham academy graduate with Inter keen to sign Chalobah as soon as possible, with involved parties confident that a deal could be completed as soon as Monday.

As per the report, Inter would sign Chalobah on loan with details yet to emerge on whether or not the Italian side have an option to make the deal permanent in 2023, yet for Leeds and Tottenham, missing out on the London-based Premier League talent could be a huge blow for either side.

The English titans are both reportedly interested in Chalobah with Chelsea open to loaning out the defender for the year amid the arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly, with Thomas Tuchel also keen to sign another centre-back, which opens the door for the 23-year-old to leave Stamford Bridge for the season.

Chalobah was a surprise breakout player of the season for Chelsea after the defender made an impressive 31 appearances in all competitions for the Blues after multiple spells out on loan, yet just one full season as a member of the senior squad could already see the centre-back leave west London, with Inter the destination.

Whilst Leeds and Tottenham are in the race for Chalobah, Inter have seemingly stolen the lead with the progress the Italian giants have made in recent days, and with rumours of a breakthrough on the horizon, the centre-back looks set to sign for the Serie A side for the season.

English talents have grown more open to moving abroad in recent years, and for Inter, their status as one of the biggest clubs in Europe has arguably played a huge role in their bid to sign Chalobah, who looks to choose the Serie A side over the likes of Leeds and Tottenham.

Indeed, whilst Premier League football would be suited to Chalobah, testing himself in Milan with Inter whilst playing in UEFA Champions League is exactly what the youngster needs at this stage of his career, with the Italian top-flight also an ideal breeding ground for an aspiring defender.
