According to The Athletic, Tottenham explored a late move for Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha in addition to Dan James.
What’s the story?
Well, Spurs entered talks with Leeds over a deal for the Wales international late on in the transfer window, although he eventually joined Fulham on a season-long loan.
However, Tottenham also had a look at signing Zaha from Crystal Palace, a player who Arsenal were monitoring as they looked to replace Nicolas Pepe.
The Ivory Coast international represented an interesting market opportunity having already entered the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park.
However, the south Londoners managed to keep their No.11 in SE25 – there was also interest from Chelsea, who supposedly held talks with Zaha’s representatives.
The 29-year-old has started the season in red hot form for Crystal Palace, scoring four goals in four Premier League games to put himself among the top scorers in England’s top-flight.
It comes after he scored 15 goals in all competitions last season – the best tally of his career.
Wilfried Zaha a better fit for Arsenal than Tottenham
In our view, Zaha would suit Arsenal more than Tottenham.
Under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners use natural wingers, whereas Conte tends to use wing-backs to provide width.
Zaha can play centrally, although his best efforts seem to come when operating as a natural wide man, cutting inside on his stronger right foot from the left flank.

With Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Richarlison already in the centre-forward department at Tottenham, the Ivorian surely would not have seen much game time.
At Arsenal, however, there are vacancies in the attack following the recent exits of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Pepe.
Keep an eye on Zaha’s future, as he is set to become one of the most wanted free agents in 2023.
