Huddersfield Town may be preparing for life without Leeds United target Lewis O’Brien as they target a move for Newcastle United’s Matty Longstaff.
That’s according to The Chronicle, who claim that Newcastle have now agreed to let Longstaff leave the club on loan before the transfer deadline.
There is no shortage of Championship interest, as Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers are keen to rival Huddersfield in the race.
Longstaff, 21, hails from Rotherham and may fancy a move to Yorkshire, especially having barely featured for Steve Bruce last season.
The news should be very interesting for Leeds United given that they currently want to sign a midfielder from Huddersfield.
The Sun claim that Leeds will make a £7million bid for Huddersfield ace Lewis O’Brien this week, and he wants the move to Elland Road this month.

Huddersfield may need to plan for his exit, and that’s where Longstaff could come in, possibly joining as a replacement for O’Brien as an energetic midfielder in Carlos Corberan’s side.
Leeds should be boosted by this rumour, as it’s clear that Huddersfield are looking for midfield reinforcements just as O’Brien potentially heads towards the exit door and over to Elland Road.
