Crystal Palace want to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien – but he fancies signing for Leeds United this month.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Palace are seeking a new midfielder before the transfer window slams shut later this month.
They fancy Watford outcast Will Hughes, but are looking at other options, with O’Brien believed to be on the radar at Selhurst Park.
The problem for Palace is that O’Brien prefers to join Leeds United, seemingly wanting to stay in West Yorkshire for the foreseeable future.
Leeds are now expected to make a £7m bid for O’Brien this week in the hope of getting a deal done before Palace can swoop in.
O’Brien, 22, has spent his entire career in West Yorkshire so far, playing more than 80 times for Huddersfield and making 46 appearances for Bradford City too.
A move to Leeds would allow O’Brien to stay in the area, rather than head back down south; he hails from Colchester, which Palace is much, much closer to geographically.
O’Brien is an energetic midfield with potential for the future, and Huddersfield’s prospects in the Championship look pretty poor this season.
A move to the Premier League would be hard to turn down, and whilst Palace may be keen, Leeds are clear favourites as things stand.
