Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane now wants Daniel Levy to agree to a release clause if he is to sign a new contract with the club.
That’s according to Eurosport, who claim that Kane may sign a new contract with Tottenham after all.
Kane was looking to leave over the summer, but Tottenham refused to sell to Manchester City.
Kane did reject a new contract over the summer, but is now open to staying at Spurs if granted a release clause.
Kane aims to emulate Jack Grealish
Remember when Jack Grealish signed a new deal at Aston Villa?
That deal included a big release clause. If it was paid, Villa got a huge £100million fee. If not, Villa had the security of keeping Grealish for years.
Grealish wasn’t desperate to leave his boyhood club, but did end up landing a move to Manchester City.
Kane is – or, to some fans, was – a hero at Spurs, just like Grealish was at Villa.
Kane now wants a release clause just like Grealish, aiming to prevent another unsavoury Tottenham exit row.
Would Levy and Tottenham really agree to Kane release clause?
Not many players have had release clauses at Tottenham. Toby Alderweireld had one, but that’s about it.
Chairman Levy loves to negotiate the best prices for his players, and the release clause takes that possibility out of the equation.
It’s even a surprise that Levy agreed to Real Madrid’s buy-back clause on Sergio Reguilon.
Kane wants to be a ‘special case’ at Tottenham in this regard, and Levy should seriously consider accepting.
Kane will be 29 next summer, so any offer north of £100million may not be so bad for Tottenham – and would eliminate some drama.
