Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu is considering a move to Tottenham, according to German publication Bild.

The report claims the Turkish midfielder is ‘toying with a move to Spurs’ and suggests that the Bundesliga giants will demand 25 million euros (£21.4 million) to let him go.

The Lilywhites are set for a busy final week in the transfer window, with several players expected to depart and incomings imminent.

Ryan Mason, Tom Carroll and Nabil Bentaleb have all been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane – by the likes of the Mirror – and if Spurs do allow them to leave, it would suggest they have replacements lined up.

Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama are the established central midfield options but one more high quality addition is need to complete the quartet and ensure Spurs are well covered for the season ahead.

Calhanoglu certainly fits the bill. The 22-year old is regarded as the best free-kick taker in football and his versatility would suit Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

He is capable of playing in a box-to box role and would provide creativity from deep alongside the more defensive-minded Wanyama or Dier.

The Turkish international can also play in a more advanced attacking midfield role and would provide further cover for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

Meanwhile, Spurs are set to announce the signings of Pau Lopez and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou imminently as Pochettino looks to add the final touches to his squad.
