Could Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha go head to head with predecessor Mark Warburton, now of Nottingham Forest, in a bid to bring Mbende to Ibrox?
Rangers and Nottingham Forest are keen on Emmanuel Mbende, according to The Mirror.
The towering centre-back is currently on the books of German third division side, Chemnitzer, where he is under contract until the end of next season.
Mbende – a former Borussia Dortmund youth team player – spent the 2015-16 season at Birmingham City, and according to the Birmingham Mail, Blues are due a significant sell-on fee should Rangers, Nottingham Forest, or anyone else for that matter, prise him away from Saxony this summer.
Rangers have already added to their central defensive options with the signings of Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso in recent weeks, although it is likely that Rob Kiernan will follow Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos out the Ibrox exit door, potentially creating space for Mbende’s arrival.
Nottingham Forest, who are managed by former Rangers boss Mark Warburton, also have no shortage of players in the 21-year-old’s position, with Michael Mancienne, Joe Worrall, Matt Mills and Jack Hobbs among them.

Bookmaker Bet Victor recently installed Forest as favourites to sign the latter player, who does not appear to feature in the immediate plans of new boss Pedro Caixinha.
Would Mbende be a good signing for Rangers or Nottingham Forest?
