TuttoMercatoWeb claim Fiorentina are in talks to sign Leeds and Arsenal target Florian Grillitsch – after talks broke down over a permanent move for Lucas Torreira. Grillitsch is a free agent, with his Hoffenheim deal about to end.

Grillitsch, who turns 27 in August, has spent the last five years at Hoffenheim – surpassing 150 appearances. He is also a regular for Austria with 33 caps to his name. But his Hoffenheim contract expires on June 30.

Reports earlier this summer said that Leeds, Arsenal and Everton were all considering the midfielder – who can also play centre-back. He is also a player Dietmar Hamann suggested Newcastle should sign.

Torreira, meanwhile, was due to join Fiorentina permanently after a solid 2021-22 campaign on loan with La Viola. But more reports say that talks have reached an impasse between the two parties.

Fiorentina in talks to sign Arsenal target Grillitsch – Torreira replacement?

It does seem as if Fiorentina have moved on from Torreira and are quickly looking to replace the Uruguay international. A move for Grillitsch would see them perhaps lose a bit of a goal threat, but adds defensive sturdiness.

It would also see Fiorentina save some cash given Grillitsch’s contractual situation. It leaves Leeds and Everton still in the market for a midfielder, and Arsenal – who could be stuck with Torreira. His deal ends in 2023.

Whether Fiorentina are still in the market for Torreira and are also looking at signing Grillitsch remains to be seen. But the Serie A side are well-stocked in midfield, and two midfield signings seems unlikely.
