The Telegraph claim Arsenal have joined Leeds and Everton in the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch on a free transfer. The Bundesliga talent is out of contract at the end of the season, and is set to go.
Grillitsch, 26, has become a household name over the years in German football – with more than 150 appearances for Hoffenheim, and more than 50 at boyhood club Werder Bremen. Another move is on the horizon.
Indeed, the 33-time Austria international is one of many available on a free. The Telegraph report states Arsenal, Leeds and Everton are all interested. Germany’s Champions League clubs, and Spanish sides are also keen.
Not only is he a natural holding midfielder, but he can also play more as a box-to-box midfielder – or even more recently, at centre-back. The Bundesliga website compares his style of play to Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Arsenal, Leeds or Everton – which is best for freebie Grillitsch?
Grillitsch would be a top signing for all three clubs. Arsenal offer Europe and it would certainly be the most tempting of moves – but the question is, would he start for the Gunners? The answer, is a maybe.
It could depend on the future of Granit Xhaka, who is likely to be linked with the exit door once again this summer. If Xhaka stays, he may be limited to a bench warmer and a player that gets Europa League game time.
At Leeds, the Whites have Kalvin Phillips but he is being heavily linked with the exit door. He certainlty starts for Everton, with Allan expected to return to Italy. An interesting decision to be made by Grillitch in the coming weeks.
