Everton are interested in signing Real Betis superstar Guido Rodriguez, a midfielder who Chelsea also reportedly keeping tabs on ahead of the Premier League season.

According to Diario de Sevilla, the Toffees’ have already made an approach to sign the 28-year-old Argentine, with Rodriguez set to leave Betis this summer as the La Liga side look to balance out the books and raise some funds to bring in some new players, with William Carvalho also reportedly set to leave.

As per the report, Betis could sell Rodriguez for as little as €25m (£20m), though whilst this fee suits Everton down to a tee, Frank Lampard’s side face competition from Chelsea, with the west London giants also interested in the midfielder, who last year was heavily linked with Liverpool.

Reports from 12 months ago suggest that Jurgen Klopp was eager to sign Rodriguez, though a move never materialised as the former Club America star remained in Seville with Betis, with Everton now looking to bring the La Liga midfielder to the blue half of Merseyside.

With Everton short on quality midfield options, Rodriguez could be an outstanding signing for the Toffees, who the Coaches’ Voice labelled as a ‘powerhouse’ given his incredible defensive qualities and ability to win the ball and drive up the pitch for Betis.

Indeed, Everton could do with a player like Rodriguez, and with just over a month of the window left to go, Lampard should be making moves now to beat Chelsea to the Argentine dynamo, who could be the Merseyside club’s midfield saviour for the upcoming season.

Rodriguez is regarded by many as one of the most underrated midfielders in La Liga, and the South American could be the player that solves Everton’s problems in the position that played a large role in their disastrous form last season under both Rafa Benitez and Lampard.

At £20m, Rodriguez would be a bargain of a signing for Everton, and if the Premier League side can beat Chelsea to the Betis midfielder, Lampard will have a guaranteed starter for the opening day of the season already secured if he and his team can move fast enough.
