Everton will this week look to increase their efforts to sign Southampton striker Che Adams, with Leeds United also reportedly interested in the Scottish international.

According to the Telegraph, Frank Lampard will ramp up his search for a striker in the coming days with Dominic Calvert-Lewin still out on the injury table, with Anthony Gordon starting up-front for Everton in their 2-1 loss away to Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

With the Toffees’ boss having little faith in Salomon Rondon, a new striker is needed at Goodison Park, and it appears that Adams is the player Everton will look to sign this summer, though the Merseyside giants face competition from Leeds, who are also reportedly interested in the Southampton attacker.

Reportedly valued at just £15m, Adams could be a handy player for Everton given their attacking injury crisis that currently sees Calvert-Lewin out on the treatment table, with the Saints star labelled by Rangers legend and former Scotland international striker Ally McCoist as a ‘terrific’ player.

With nine goals and five assists in the Premier League last season, Adams is coming off his most productive year yet for Southampton since joining the club from Birmingham City in 2019, and for Everton, the 26-year-old attacker could be a useful option for Lampard’s side this season.

Naturally a striker but comfortable playing in numerous other positions in the frontline, Adams has the potential to greatly expand Everton’s attack should Lampard win the race to sign the Leeds target, and at just £15m, the Toffees could land a potential bargain this summer.

Everton’s need for more attacking depth has been evident ever since the first day of the summer transfer window, yet in true Toffees fashion, they’ve left the problem until the last possible moment, though it now appears that Lampard and his team are now beginning work on finally signing a forward, with Adams the main target.

Indeed, the Premier League talent has been impressive in patches for Southampton, and for what Everton need in a Richarlison replacement, the Scottish international could be a cheap alternative and a short-term fix for the Goodison Park side for what is set to be another hard year for the blue side of Liverpool.
