Football website 90Min claims Frank Lampard has shown an interest in luring AZ Alkmaar full-back Owen Wijndal to Everton – but they could face competition in the race to land the defender from Tottenham and West Ham.

Wijndal, 22, has been sensational for Eredivisie side Alkmaar after breaking into the senior side from the academy. Despite his tender age, he has clocked up an enormous 142 appearances – and is already the club captain.

A fully-fledged international with 11 Netherlands caps, Wijndal has enjoyed a brilliant campaign with Alkmaar. A solid fifth-placed finish in the Eredivisie, Wijndal had a hand in 14 goals from the left flank.

Reports state that both Tottenham and West Ham want Wijndal this summer – and now, 90Min say Lampard is considering a move for the defender at Everton. That is, despite Vitalii Mykolenko joining in January.

Wijndal is a wonderful player. A left-back with enormous potential, and already, huge experience at just 22. Football Oranje say he is available for a bargain £8.5million this summer, a no-brainer for bigger European clubs.

The Toffees seriously need competition at left-back. The intrigue is whether Everton will be able to spend any of the £50million they are to receive for Richarlison from Tottenham, with issues regarding Financial Fairplay.

Is all of that cash going to ease the FFP concerns? Or will there be money left over to reinvest? Time will tell. But for £8.5million, Everton would be signing a player with enormous potential – a player worth far more.
