According to journalist Ciro Venerato, Everton are now interested in signing Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, who Tottenham and Liverpool also want.
What’s the story?
Well, speaking on Radio Goal, Venerato claimed that Rafa Benitez wants the 30-year-old at Goodison Park.
Venerato said: “I give you news that arrived a few minutes ago. There is another team that has fallen on Lorenzo Insigne: it is the Everton of Rafa Benitez.
“The English club is interested in the player, but I don’t think the player can join Everton. If Insigne were to leave, Napoli could not buy any substitutes.”
Sadly, it doesn’t sound as if Napoli could afford to replace the 47-cap Italy international if he did leave.
If – somehow – the Toffees did sign Insigne, he’d be an incredible addition.
The diminutive forward scored two goals to help Italy win EURO 2020, following a season with Napoli in which he netted 19 times.
Despite Napoli’s reluctance to sell, Tottenham and Liverpool have still tried their luck.
What have Tottenham and Liverpool done?
In Tottenham’s case, they have actually submitted a bid for the £83,000-a-week forward, who has scored 168 career goals.
Elsewhere, it seems Liverpool are in the same boat as their Merseyside rivals Everton – the Reds have only expressed their interest as of now.
There has been no update on whether Napoli accepted or rejected the bid from Spurs.
Despite his importance to Napoli as captain, everyone has a price, and Napoli could presumably cash in if the money is right.
At 30, Insigne is far from a long-term option, although he is a fantastic attacker who would improve nearly every Premier League side.
