According to The Athletic, Everton are in talks to sign Manchester United’s Sergio Romero, who is soon to be a free agent.
What’s the story?
Well, as The Athletic state, Everton tried to sign the 34-year-old in 2020, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t want to strengthen a Premier League rival.
Everton offered a £2 million loan fee, and were also happy to cover all of Romero’s £100,000-a-week wages.
However, the Red Devils weren’t interested.
Now, however, with his contract at Old Trafford set to expire in a matter of days, the 96-cap Argentina international is in talks with the Toffees.
According to The Athletic, Everton are still exploring a deal to re-sign Robin Olsen after his loan from Roma ended.
However, the situation is proving to be complicated, so talks have began with Romero.
Sergio Romero wants to join Everton

Interestingly, the South American shot-stopper actually wants a move to Goodison Park when he leaves Manchester United.
That’s according to the Daily Mail.
In that respect, surely it would be quite straightforward to bring him to Merseyside.
Another interesting thing to note is the fact that Marcel Brands has already signed Romero once in his career as a Sporting Director.

The Dutchman signed the experienced glovesman for AZ Alkmaar in 2007.
Amazingly, in 61 appearances for Manchester United, the Argentine conceded just 27 goals and kept 39 clean sheets.
In terms of finding someone to deputise for Jordan Pickford this summer, there won’t be many better options than Romero.
