According to a report from the Daily Mail in April, Sergio Romero is keen on a move to Everton this summer.
Now, it’s been announced that the 34-year-old has been released by Manchester United, after his contract with the Red Devils expired.
Marcel Brands tried to sign the 96-cap Argentina international back in October.
However, the Dutchman settled for Robin Olsen after Romero proved too difficult to sign.
Interestingly, Brands has actually signed Romero before.
It was Everton’s Director of Football who brought the South American to AZ Alkmaar back in 2007.
Sergio Romero would be ideal backup for Jordan Pickford
Manchester United weren’t the only club to announce a list of released players today.

Everton disclosed their own list, which revealed that Olsen will be returning to Roma.
Instead of trying to sign the Swede permanently, which will require paying a fee to Roma, Everton should simply offer Romero a contract.
It has already been revealed that he wants a move to Goodison Park, and he’s also an exquisite goalkeeper who had a fine record at Old Trafford.

In 61 appearances for Manchester United, Romero conceded just 27 goals on his way to keeping 39 clean sheets.
That is simply incredible, to say the least.
In our view, Everton would be silly not to offer Romero a contract.
