According to the Telegraph, Erik ten Hag now wants to bring Newcastle target Lisandro Martinez to the Premier League with Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, the Dutchman is set to replace Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford, and he seemingly intends to bring a few players from Ajax with him.
The Telegraph believe Ten Hag could also sign Jurrien Timber, although it is Martinez who has now been added to Manchester United’s shortlist.
It comes after Duncan Castles revealed that Newcastle want to sign the Argentina international, after growing frustrated in their pursuits of Sven Botman and Diego Carlos.
The Telegraph believe Martinez – who Tottenham wanted in 2020 – will cost around £30m, as he still has three years remaining on his contract in Amsterdam.
Interestingly, the Telegraph describe the South American as the cornerstone of Ten Hag’s backline in recent years, as well as a very quick defender.
So far this season, Martinez has made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal while also providing four assists.
Newcastle must be wary of Manchester United

In our view, this is very bad news for Newcastle.
While the Magpies have enough money to fend off the Red Devils, it is Martinez’s relationship with Ten Hag which could cause Eddie Howe some issues in his pursuit.
The 24-year-old has made 120 appearances under the 52-year-old, scoring six goals while also providing six assists.
Martinez has won the Eredivisie title on two occasions under Ten Hag, as well as the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield.

Furthermore, the Argentine won the Player of the Season award at Ajax this term as a result of his fine efforts – he is clearly a brilliant footballer.
You can certainly see why Ten Hag wants to bring him to Manchester.
Keep an eye on this saga, as we wouldn’t be surprised to see Martinez playing in the Premier League next season.
