According to Oriol Domènech, Manchester United are ready to bid for Liverpool target Frenkie de Jong, following phone calls from Erik ten Hag.

What’s the story?

Well, it seems as if the Red Devils are stepping things up, as they look to bring the Netherlands international to the Premier League.

It was said that Barcelona are willing to sell De Jong for £68m, and now, Manchester United are ready to pay that sum.

Speaking on Esport3’s “Onze” programme, Domènech revealed that the 25-year-old was previously against a move to Old Trafford.

However, several phone calls from Ten Hag – who he worked alongside at Ajax – have given him a clearer picture of the project at Manchester United.

De Jong still has reservations about joining the English giants, as he wants to play in the Champions League, although it seems he is more open to the idea than he was.

It comes after Liverpool also expressed an interest in the Dutchman, who could be used in a deal to lure Robert Lewandowski to the Camp Nou.

Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in De Jong.

In 46 appearances this season, the Barcelona No.21 scored four goals, while also providing five assists.

In our view, Liverpool need to sell a midfielder before they can even think about signing another option in that department.

Jürgen Klopp already struggles to pick three from the likes of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Thiago, James Milner, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Harvey Elliott.

As things stand, Liverpool cannot sign another midfielder until at least one of those midfield options leaves Anfield.

One man who could be departing Liverpool is Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The England international is believed to be up for sale, with Aston Villa and West Ham interested in his services.

Keep an eye on the saga involving De Jong, as anything could happen this summer.
