The East Anglian Daily Times claim that Ipswich Town are interested in signing Leeds United defender Leif Davis. The left-back has returned to Elland Road, after a disappointing spell at AFC Bournemouth last season.

Davis, 22, decided to go on loan to Bournemouth last summer, after managing just 14 first-team appearances for Leeds. But in the Championship, the defender only managed 15 appearances under Scott Parker.

Bournemouth have won promotion to the Premier League, finishing second in the Championship. But the Cherries have chosen not to activate the £1.5million permanent clause in the loan deal for Davis.

Now, Davis may be forced to drop down a division further and join Ipswich. The Tractor Boys are considering a possible permanent move to sign Davis, who is about to enter the final year of his Leeds contract.

If Leeds can rake in a seven-figure fee for Davis, it is good business. The £1.5million fee was organised between Leeds and Bournemouth last summer but after struggling for game time in 21-22, his value will have decreased.

Leeds do lack options on the left side of their defence. Junior Firpo is first choice, but the ex-Barcelona man has struggled since arriving in Yorkshire. Stuart Dallas is likely to be sidelined with injury until the new year.

However, Davis is clearly seen as surplus to requirements at Elland Road and could be the subject of a permanent move in the coming days and weeks. A player Marcelo Bielsa once branded a “great player.”
