The i claim that Everton are close to agreeing a new deal with Anthony Gordon after the English talent was the subject of summer offers from Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea. Gordon is in line for a ‘substantial pay rise’ at Everton.

Gordon, 21, was the subject of enormous interest throughout the summer – mostly from Chelsea. The Blues were said to be willing to pay as much as £60million to sign the England Under-21 international. But he has remained at Everton.

Currently, Gordon is with England’s Under-21 side – who played against Italy at Pescara’s home stadium on Thursday evening. Starting on the bench, he came on in the second half under Lee Carsley, to win his eighth cap for the 21’s.

Back home, talks are ongoing. The report claims that after bids from Newcastle, Chelsea and Tottenham in the summer, those negotiations with Everton are ‘progressing well’. He has a deal until 2025, but Everton feel he deserves a pay rise.

Everton close to agreeing new deal with Gordon amid summer interest

Fair enough, to Everton. They could have raked in an enormous cash sum for Gordon. Similar to the one they received for Richarlison from Tottenham. Of course, Everton did need to sell a big gun – and Richarlison was the man to go.

Perhaps, Tottenham buying the Brazil international prevented Everton having to cash in on Gordon. Regardless now, as Everton have kept Gordon and now, their new no.10 looks as if he is about to sign a new deal under Frank Lampard.

How long he will remain at Everton remains to be seen. But it certainly looks, at least for the next three or four seasons, he will stay in at Everton. Gordon staying, and signing a new deal, is a beacon of hope for Everton fans – in a dark time.
