Villarreal will reportedly consider a move to sign Almeria striker Umar Sadiq, who is also wanted by Newcastle United and famously flopped at Rangers under Steven Gerrard.
According to Super Deporte, Unai Emery’s side are interested in the Nigerian international after a fantastic season in the Segunda Division, with Sadiq bagging 19 goals in all competitions and attracting interest from numerous sides across the continent, namely Newcastle.
As per the report, the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave this summer if Almeria receives an offer of €25m (£20m) for their star attacker, a valuation Villarreal are contemplating as Emery looks to add to the Yellow Submarine’s attack for next season.
A striker who joined Rangers on loan in 2018 and played just once under Gerrard, Sadiq has come leaps and bounds since that move, with the forward settling well with Almeria since joining the Spanish side in 2020, with the attacker averaging a goal every two games for the club.
And now, the striker’s hard work is paying off after his failure to impress at Rangers, with some of Europe’s biggest now chasing Sadiq as the forward looks set to win the biggest move of his career, though for Newcastle, Villarreal look the strongest to land the 25-year-old.
Indeed, Sadiq has impressed massively in Spain ever since moving to the country in 2020, and a move to La Liga seems like a logical next step for the Nigerian international, with the forward guiding Almeria to promotion last season.
Villarreal should be working hard to beat Newcastle to Sadiq signing

Villarreal are one of the more interesting sides in Spain, and for Sadiq, Emery’s side could be a more alluring destination this summer given the club’s record in Europe and the platform the side will give the striker next season.
Moreover, if reports are to be believed, Newcastle have already moved on to other striking targets, giving Villarreal a clear shot at signing Sadiq this summer whilst the Magpies are focused on different players.
