According to Sport, Newcastle are interested in signing Rangers misfit Umar Sadiq, who has kickstarted his career in Spain.

What’s the story?

Well, the 25-year-old has struggled throughout his career, although Newcastle are now keen to sign him after he burst into life for Almeria.

Sadiq has scored 14 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions this season, while also providing nine assists.

It comes after the Nigerian netted 28 goals in all competitions last term.

Sport believe Newcastle have made contact with Almeria to ask about his availability, while Barcelona have also made a move.

Additionally, Sevilla are said to be keen on signing Sadiq.

Turki Al-Alsheikh – President of Almeria – is standing firm on his asking price, which is believed to be €60m (£50m).

Newcastle could show Rangers what they missed out on

If Newcastle sign Sadiq and he goes on to thrive, then Rangers may regret their decision to move him on so quickly.

The 6ft 4in powerhouse joined Rangers on a season-long loan from Roma in 2018, but he made just four appearances before Steven Gerrard decided to cut his time at Ibrox short and send him back to Italy.

Sadiq failed to record a single goal involvements in those outings.

Sadiq has since risen to stardom, to the point where Newcastle and their Saudi Arabian owners have identified him as a target.

Seeing as the Magpies can pretty much afford anybody nowadays, it speaks volumes that they’ve set their sights on Sadiq.

If he joins Newcastle and goes on to become a Premier League superstar, Rangers will surely be left thinking ‘what if’.
