Okay so Arsenal’s need for a creative player this summer has just gone way up.
The Gunners endured a rotten start to the new Premier League season on Friday by losing 2-0 away to Brentford, a newly-promoted club.
Brentford were definitely good value for the victory but, by the same token, it was a truly awful performance from Arsenal and one where they never really looked like scoring.
Mikel Arteta and Edu have been linked with the addition of a number 10 all summer long but with a couple weeks left in the transfer window, nobody has been signed as of yet.
In recent days, speculation has been rife that Martin Odegaard is back on Arsenal’s radar and Fabrizio Romano reported in midweek that the North Londoners were preparing a £42 million offer.
But there could be good news on this front because El Confidencial in Spain has reported that Real Madrid will now accept £34 million after slashing the asking price.
Incredible
The Norway international had a half-season loan at the Emirates last season and Arteta labelled the 22-year-old as ‘incredible‘ back in March.
Arteta is clearly a big fan of the player and it was reported by Mundo Deportivo in midweek that the Spaniard was desperate to get the Real magician back in North London.
And let’s face it, if Arsenal are being linked with a £60 million move for James Maddison then they can easily afford the £34 million that the Spanish giants are reportedly looking for for Odegaard.
