Borussia Dortmund have made an enquiry to sign Hellas Verona striker Giovanni Simeone, with Arsenal and West Ham also reportedly chasing the Argentine attacker.

According to Corriere della Sera, the Bundesliga giants have made first steps to sign the 27-year-old forward, with Simeone one of the many players Dortmund are looking as a short-term replacement for Sebastien Haller, who is set to miss numerous months of football due to chemotherapy to treat a testicular tumour found a few weeks ago.

As a result, Dortmund need a new leading striker in the absence of the Ivorian, and Simeone has now emerged as a candidate for the German side, with the Serie A star last season enjoying a brilliant year with Hellas as the former Cagliari star bagged a career-best 17 goals in the league.

With such an impressive year under his belt, it’s no wonder why the likes of Dortmund are interested in Simeone, with Arsenal and West Ham also reportedly interested in the Argentine international, who Hellas will reportedly allow to leave this summer for €25m (£20m).

Indeed, whilst Simeone would be a potential bargain for Arsenal or West ham given his form last season, both London clubs have already gone big on strikers this summer, with the Gunners signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City whilst the Hammers landed Gianluca Scamacca from Hellas’ Serie A rivals Sassuolo.

Even though Arsenal and West Ham could do with an extra quality striker, Dortmund could feel confident in trying to sign Simeone this summer, especially with the German side eagerly looking to replace Haller as quickly as possible ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

Simeone has been quietly one of Serie A’s best strikers since his breakthrough year at Genoa in 2016, and for Dortmund, the South American would be an ideal replacement for Haller given how oddly similar the two powerful strikers are when it comes to leading the line.

Whilst a permanent deal might be a bit too much for Simeone, the Argentine is perfect for what Dortmund need in the short-term, and the Bundesliga side should be doing all they can to sign the Hella star in the coming days.
